The Challenge

As Christians we mock Jesus when we aren’t obedient and faithful to him. / As a church we must be serious about our commitment to prayer.

Summary

Passage – Mark 15

Brent begins by setting the scene of when Jesus was being prepared to be crucified. The Romans had a system where they tortured the criminal prior to the crucifixion. Jesus did withstand the torture and was then lead out to his death.

Jesus suffered for us, and he understands suffering.
It is important for us to understand that Jesus suffered for us. Jesus understands what suffering physically and emotionally is like. Jesus understands isolation and loneliness — everyone left him and abandoned him.

Jesus understands what it feels like to be mocked
Back in chapter 10, Jesus predicts his being mocked and spit on. The first time he was mocked was by the Sanhedrin guards. They mocked him for being a prophet. The. The Roman guards then later mocked him for being a king. Then at the foot of the cross the chief priest mocks Jesus for being a messiah. And our generation continues the mocking. Yet, one day in the future, when Jesus returns “every knee will bow.”

We mock Jesus when we honour our own way
When we met other things in our lives become more important than being obedient and faithful to him. We often let the pressures of our society determine how we do not honour Jesus.

Sam’s Story
Sam provides her story of finding comfort in learning that Jesus understands her suffering. (Psalm 46:10)

Strength vs. Weakness
We live in a society that tells us that being strong and self sufficient. We don’t celebrate the weakness we have that God uses to demonstrate his strength.
SouthRidge’s prayer focus

Brent challenges us as a group of Jesus followers to stop being proud and celebrate through prayer.
