Summary of When God Forgets
Preamble
Wes starts by exploring the very difficult question “Why does bad things happen to good people?” Wes goes on to explain that it is easy to think that God has forgotten us when bad things are going on in our lives. We question God and wonder “Did God forget that I’m a good person?”
Genesis 40
Joseph is in prison along side two other prisoners. He hears about their odd dreams and tells them that they are messages from God. The interpretations of the dreams are given to Joseph by God. The interpretations come true and one prisoner is released from jail while the other one is executed. The one prisoner (Pharaoh’s cupbearer) totally forgets about Joseph and never mentions to Pharaoh Joseph’s blight despite Joseph begging the cupbearer to remember.
How we can react to being at the lowest in our lives
There are two ways we can react:
- We can become disillusioned and embittered. This occurs when we put hope in a person instead of God. When they fail us (not “if”, but “when.0
- Put our trust in God and becoming a Jesus follower
Being a “Jesus follower” means we will never be alone
Having a relationship with God means we will never be alone. During our deepest and darkest moments we will always have Jesus for support. (Hebrews 6).
Blaming God for things we don’t understand
During his closing prayer Wes speaks to God about our mistake in blaming God for the things we don’t understand. .
