We cannot resist our sin if we aren’t prepared to confess it, and to name it. How will you confront your sin this week?
Summary
Brent begins with remembering where he was during major cultural events and life events — like 9/11, the day the Challenger space shuttle exploded, or the dramatic birth of his fourth child.
Then Brent focuses on the major event in Jesus’ life — the day he was betrayed. Brent admits there are confusing parts in this passage. This is a great example of a time when his disciples had to choose to follow Jesus or abandon Jesus. Some people call these types of events in our own lives as “a dark spiritual night” — a time when we must choose to follow Jesus during uncertain and confusing times.
SouthRidge’s Small Groups are designed to provide a place where we can be in community during these dark spiritual times. When we struggle and feel unsettled it is because we have an internal struggle to follow God’s leading in our life. Even Jesus felt that struggle! Its human to struggle. But Jesus said “yes” to God’s plan for him.
Saying yes to God doesn’t mean everything works out and everything is perfect. Jesus said yes to God’s plan and ended up dying a horrible death. Peter also prayed that God would remove a “thorn in [his] flesh” and God answered in a way where the throne remains.
But if don’t submit to God we will never experience peace — a peace that overcomes all the “thrones in our flesh”. God strengthens us!
